THE VALUE OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Protecting our forest, home of animals

“In my family, we are four men and a woman. I am the fifth child among my siblings. The relationship with my family has always been great. When my father died 5 years ago, we inherited an area of natural forest. Due to lack of knowledge, we overused it for cattle grazing and for deer hunting, which affected the fauna of the area. Over time, the cattle was gradually reduced, which helped to the regeneration of the forest. Today we wonder: How beautiful the forest would be if we hadn’t overused its natural resources and hunted those deer?

They helped us to
appreciate the natural resources we have

Thanks to the intervention of FUNDAP in our community, we have a Basic Educational Cooperative Institute of the Alternation system (ICEFAT) and the agricultural and environmental promoters have helped us appreciate the natural resources we have. The technicians of the Environmental Program of FUNDAP told us about the environmental, social and economic benefits of protecting the forest resources. My brothers and I decided to join this program so that the technicians of FUNDAP carried out a technical study of our forest. It is the only way to preserve our forests and the animals living there. Obviously, we will also make a profit, but the priority is to preserve that beautiful pine forest and its fora and fauna.”
