Guatemala, despite representing the largest economy in Central America, is located within the countries with the highest levels of inequality in Latin America, with high poverty rates – particularly in rural areas and among indigenous populations – and with some of the highest chronic malnutrition rates and mother-child mortality rates in the region. Therefore, FUNDAP focuses its intervention in the lower income sectors of the Republic of Guatemala, especially in the population of the Central Highlands, North and South West of Guatemala.
